So we all love our referrals, right? Especially the active ones, but every referral matters. Now I know that a lot of people prefer to keep this stuff a secret, hoping maybe they'll get more referrals that way, but I know that I will never reach everybody on the internet and neither will you. There are enough people to go around, I promise. This is the best GPT site out there, we should be spreading it!
So let's talk about it! What do you do to get referrals?
I like talking to people I actually know. I don't jump on them like a car salesman, but depending on the person I either bring up a conversation or I just talk about it here and there and work up to a conversation about it.
Beyond people I know, I like to post (NOT SPAM) my referral link around places that I'm active or that have profiles (and allow for it in their rules): MySpace, Livejournal, my blog, instant messenger profiles, Yahoo! Answers, etc.
Yahoo! Answers is a fun one for me. There are a lot of people that ask questions about GPT sites, or just getting money/free stuff online in general, so as long as you aren't spamming your answer and you actually answer in a way related to the question (in other words, follow the rules) you can make mention of/guide the person towards SimpleGPT. Yahoo! keeps the answers available for years, so somebody searching Google later on after the question expires may still find your referral link.
Another thing is my wife is active in places on the internet that I am not. She can't join SimpleGPT because I am a member, but she has my referral link in her signature on forums, mentions SimpleGPT (with my referral link) to her friends, etc.
These are some of the ways I get referrals out. However I did want to mention one other thing. I noted earlier that every referral counts. You know the referrals that join and either quit after a couple of offers or just join and never do any offers at all? Make sure you send them a courteous message offering advice and help! This can spark their interest in the site! I know that there are referrals that may never check those messages, but don't let that stop you from trying. Don't SPAM them though.
Also know that they may not do anything on here for a while, but they may remember or run across something that reminds them they have an account here, and come back interested in getting active on the site. It wouldn't be the first time somebody came back to something after a long period of inactivity -- I've seen people stop playing online games for years at a time, then suddenly show back up and get completely involved!
Anyway, this post is a lot longer than I planned on. These are some of my thoughts on referrals. What are yours? Don't be shy.
